The tech topic I have chosen to elaborate on is IT careers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, "IT careers involve workers who create or support computer applications, systems, and networks" (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2024, August 29). These careers encompass a variety of roles, such as cybersecurity, help desk support, network administration, and software development, among others. To succeed in these positions, it is essential to understand the fundamentals of computers, including how hardware and software interact. IT careers are built on a solid foundation in information technology. Professionals in the IT industry need to grasp how computers operate, including basic concepts we covered in our reading, such as programming, the internet, mobile applications, privacy, and security.For example, in our readings, we learned that a database management system (DBMS) is an application that creates, maintains, and accesses database systems. Popular DBMS options include MySQL, Oracle Database, and Microsoft Access. Common database operations consist of adding new data, editing existing data, deleting data, and querying the database for information. A query is a search conducted in a database to retrieve specific data (zyBooks, 2025). Without this knowledge, someone working in data management would struggle to perform their job effectively.
