AAA APP REVIEW!
I decided to review the AAA mobile app for our discussion this week. This app is available to AAA members, enabling them to access their membership and insurance benefits. The mobile application offers a wide range of functionalities, including the ability to make changes to your membership, request roadside assistance, file an insurance claim, view insurance documents, and access travel assistance, discounts, and rewards, among other features.
**Usability** The AAA mobile app appears to be user-friendly; however, I noticed several areas for improvement while navigating through it. The sign-in page is straightforward, taking you directly to a screen where you can enter your user ID and password. If you don’t have an online account, you can create one from within the app. There’s also an option to enable Face ID, allowing you to sign in without entering your username and password. An interesting feature on the sign-in page is that you can access certain benefits without signing in completely, such as roadside assistance, nearby gas prices, and travel assistance. I explored the option of resetting my password, and I found that you must provide your AAA membership number to do so. Unfortunately, the app doesn’t offer a way to look up your membership number; you would need to call for that information if you don’t have it handy. Once signed in, the app greets you with your membership number, but I found it challenging to locate the actual sign-out button afterward. **Design** The design of the app is visually appealing, featuring a simple color scheme of mostly white, red, and blue. The sections of the app are well-organized and clearly labeled. I noticed that the travel section contains many images, enhancing its visual appeal. Navigation is facilitated through tabs and menu buttons. However, some options feel buried within the app, making it a bit difficult to find them if you're not already familiar with the interface. For instance, building a Trip Tik took me longer to access than I expected. Additionally, the sign-out button is located at the bottom of the "My Account" screen in small red lettering, which could be easily overlooked. **Functionality** The app is designed to provide extensive information and facilitate access to AAA benefits. Users have the option to share their location, which helps in finding local discounts, locating the cheapest gas, and pinpointing your location when requesting roadside assistance—a feature I find particularly useful. Within the roadside assistance section, the app displays a map and icon images for specific requests, such as towing, tire changes, battery assistance, and fuel/EV charging. One significant drawback is that, if you have insurance with AAA, the app can feel somewhat limited. When attempting to access insurance documents or proof of insurance, the app redirects you to the AAA website, requiring you to log in again, which I don’t find user-friendly. Many insurance companies allow users to view proof of insurance directly within their mobile apps and add it to a mobile wallet. **Recommendations for Improvement** I recommend that the app allow users to view their proof of insurance without being redirected to the website and having to log in again. Additionally, it would be beneficial to enable insurers to add their insurance details directly in the app. I also suggest changing the wording on the sign-in page from "Need help signing in" to "Forgot username or password." Furthermore, the app should allow users to request their username or password. Currently, if you request your username, it automatically sends a password reset link to your email. Lastly, I believe the sign-out button should be more accessible, perhaps located directly on the home screen rather than buried within the "More" and "My Account" sections, where it appears in small red lettering at the bottom of the page. In conclusion, I find the AAA mobile app to be very useful, providing its members with numerous valuable benefits right at their fingertips. Overall, the app is clear and user-friendly, but it could greatly benefit from some minor improvements. With my suggestions, it would become even easier for members to navigate and utilize all the features it has to offer.
